(February
1st. 2004)
The
California Premiere of our movie, THE
PANMAN, was a huge success!! The event took place on
Saturday 24th January, 2004 at the Mount Olive Lutheran Church in
Santa Monica and was attended by approximately 300 people. The
audience, which represented a wide cross-section of the Caribbean and
American Communities, created great excitement and enthusiasm for the
movie, as did the Pan Performances and the discussions that followed.
The Pastor and the Church Council have since informed us that they
were especially impressed by the positive atmosphere of the entire
event and have expressed an interest in helping to continue the
process to other Lutheran Churches around the country.
The
evening began with a Caribbean-style dinner from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Next,
there were two PAN Performances by two soloists: Mr. Gary Olton of
Del Rosa S.D.A. Steel Orchestra, and Mr. Christian Dymally-Lee, a
12-year old young panman.
The
filmmaker, Kamalo Deen, then introduced the movie, THE
PANMAN, and the movie started 7:13pm.
Afterwards,
there was a lively discussion on the film that continued for
approximately one hour. The audience was unanimous in its praise of
the movie and the work of filmmaker Kamalo Deen.
We
wish to thank everyone who attended and participated in this
wonderful event.
Special
mention must be made, however, of the following persons:
*
Pastor Gary Marshall and the Congregation of the Mount Olive
Lutheran Church for hosting this event and working so hard to make it
a success.
*
Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Stephen for their efforts in ensuring that the
food was prepared well and also for making it as delicious as it was.
*
Mrs. Maggie Fleming for loaning the tropical plants which helped to
create a Caribbean Atmosphere in the auditorium.
*
Vashti Goolcharan for leading us to her Trini - Group.
*
Dr Harold Ganga whose efforts turned out many Caribbean Residents in
the Los Angeles Community.
*
Mr. Gene Williams, Mr. Paul Clarke, Mr. David Olson, and Mr. Ivar
Hillesland who ably assisted in bringing this event to fruition.
*
And finally, Dr Maurice Stephenson, whose unwavering dedication to
the success of this event, who initiated, planned, and supervised
every aspect of the event and who made it happen.
Pempaleh
International Productions owes him and all others above our
deepest gratitude and a special THANK YOU!! for all of their work.
